Literary Department
New writing has been at the core of Rough Magic’s work since its beginning and we continue to support emerging and established writers through commissions, workshops, public readings and full productions.
Rough Magic’s Literary Manager is Maureen White.
The work of the Literary Department covers three main areas
- overseeing the work of commissioned writers, (including those on the AIB SEEDS programme)
- researching plays from the international and classic canon
- reading unsolicited scripts sent in to the company.
At present we are not able to respond to all the scripts that are sent to us; we do however, read them and where we feel that either the play or the writer is promising, and fits well with our work, we make contact.
Any scripts sent to us should be in hard copy only and contain a cover letter with contact details. Please allow at least 3 months for a response and include a S.A.E if you would like your script returned.
Writers currently under commission include:
- Arthur Riordan
- Hilary Fannin in collaboration with Composer Ellen Cranitch
Writers currently part of the AIB SEEDS programme:
- Mark Cantan
- Sean Dunne
