Melt by Shane Mac an Bhaird nominated for a ZeBBie

We are thrilled that Shane Mac an Bhaird’s brilliant first play Melt has been nominated for a Zebbie Award by the Irish Playwrights and Screenwriters Guild.

Produced by Rough Magic for the 2017 Dublin Theatre Festival this funny, sophisticated fairytale featured Owen Roe, Rebecca O’Mara, Genevieve Hulme Beaman and Charlie Maher, directed by Lynne Parker and designed by Sarah Bacon, Zia Bergin-Holly, Carl Kennedy and John Galvin.

Melt is a play about the folly of mankind; our ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, and the damage we do to ourselves and our world in the process. The play tackles climate change, isolation and intellectual adventure in a funny, sophisticated fairytale that explores the human condition, acknowledges its fragility and takes the audience on a jaunt to the edge of the abyss.

Shane Mac an Bhaird was a participant on the Rough Magic SEEDS 2014/2015 programme.

“There’s no other play quite like Rough Magic’s Melt right now… A play that goes to the end of the world” The Irish Times

“the skill shown by Mac an Bhaird’s script in weaving the mundane and the strange and the tragic and the comic is entirely worth watching” Reviews Hub

“I loved this…incredibly well put together…mixes realism with fantasy in a way that’s very believable…” Arena, RTE Radio One

“a quintessential Rough Magic show” Patrick Lonergan
