New Associate Director
Rough Magic is delighted to announce the appointment of Dominic O’Brien as our new Associate Director. One of the rising stars of Irish theatre, Dominic is a graduate of SEEDS and joins the team as we begin our 40th anniversary year.
Dominic follows the stellar line of Associates, beginning with Tom Creed, followed by Matt Torney, Sophie Motley and Ronan Phelan. All our Associates remain a valued part of the Rough Magic family and in the same way, we look forward to continuing the relationship with Dominic that began during his SEEDS apprenticeship.
A theatre-maker from Dublin, Dominic studied Drama and Classics at Trinity College graduating in 2020. Dominic was a participant in our SEEDS programme 2021/2022 and was Assistant Director on our 2021 production of All the Angels by Nick Drake. He enjoys working collaboratively to make theatre that questions the cultural legacies we’ve inherited. His directing credits include Horse Play (Glass Mask Theatre), DOLL (Smock Alley), Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again. (Beckett Theatre), and Beat. (Dublin Fringe Festival). He has been the assistant-director for productions from Opera Collective Ireland and Sugarglass Theatre. Writing credits include Decameron (Rough Weekend) and Wild One (Players Theatre).
His play Echo premieres in Smock Alley between the 23rd – 27th January!
