Trainee Producer Role

Rough Magic will offer a 12-month part-time employment opportunity with the company for an early-career freelance theatre producer. The selected candidate will help coordinate COMPASS activities as well as assisting on Rough Magic productions as agreed, learning on the job. They will be provided with access to a desk in the Rough Magic office, mentorship by the management team on all aspects of theatre production, advice and practical support for their own independent projects.
The Trainee Producer will report to the Producer, General Manager and Artistic Director. They will work in collaboration with the administration and production teams and with creative personnel on each show. Areas of activity will include:
- Administrative support
- Basic financial management
- Logistics and liaison when the company is on tour (including accommodation and travel arrangements)
- Social media management
- Support for PR and marketing consultants
- Building management i.e. liaising with other tenants of the premises
- Fundraising and liaison with patrons
The successful candidate will have a demonstrable interest in theatre production and some experience, at undergraduate or Fringe level, of producing live work in a leading capacity for the paying public. They will have good communication skills, and the ability both to work within and to lead a team. Some experience in financial management is required.
They must have a good working knowledge of theatre practice and production in contemporary Irish theatre. They must also demonstrate an understanding of Rough Magic, its ethos and history, with a view to forming an effective and collaborative part of the management team and contributing to the company’s creative thinking and practice.
This role can be fulfilled remotely during COVID restrictions, please note the successful candidate will need to attend regular meetings in person in Dublin once restrictions lift.
The commitment is one day per week and the salary will be € 6,000 (€30,000 pro rata).
