Staging Canaletto: Theatre Residency for the Rough Magic SEEDS

We are delighted to announce that in 2019 Rough Magic will be partnering with the National Gallery’s Education, Learning & Engagement Programme. The influence of Canaletto’s early training and career in theatre is clearly evident in “Canaletto and the Art of Venice”. Wishing to explore this aspect further, the Gallery has invited the Rough Magic SEEDS to participate in this very special project.

Throughout the run of “Canaletto & The Art of Venice” the five participating SEEDS will engage with the exhibition and collaborate with the education team to create new contemporary work in response. From February, Ciara Elizabeth Smyth, Olivia Songer, John Gunning, Naomi Faughnan, and Líadan Ní Chearbhaill will participate in an on-site Gallery residency in the Millennium Wing Studio, with a range of public engagement activities and performances taking place in the closing weeks of the exhibition.

“Canaletto and the Art of Venice” will run from 5 December 2018 – 24 March 2019. For ticket information visit nationalgallery.ie.
